Drawing, Painting And Digital Floral Design — A Summer Short Course At Nottingham Trent University

Course Information

Monday to Friday 10 am - 4 pm, one week

Level: Professional

Entry requirement: You should know your way around a computer in terms of file saving and other basic functions. Professional or academic experience in any design discipline is required.

On this course you'll be introduced to floral design for fashion, textiles, interiors and decorative arts applications.

The course uniquely brings together trend awareness and floral design to build an exciting digital portfolio with accompanying sketches and paintings.

Whether you're already working in the design industry, hoping to pursue further academic studies or wishing to develop personal projects, this course will help you improve your drawing, design and computer skills.

During the course you will:

·         undertake drawing and painting exercises

·         make floral collages

·         scan your work

·         find online images to adapt

·         create artwork using different colour palettes

·         research trends and create inspiration moodboards.

The course will involve a visual demonstration introducing how floral prints work in the design industry, followed by drawing and painting workshops and some Photoshop technical work.

The course will be taught on PCs (but you are welcome to bring your own PC or Mac with Photoshop and a mouse if you prefer).

What will I gain? 

By the end of the course, you will know how to research and develop a project, have new drawing, painting and CAD skills, and gained an understanding of floral prints in the world of design.

Tutor Profile: Catherine Wise has combined working as a designer with teaching and training in the fashion and textiles sector.

After graduating with a degree in textile design from Nottingham Trent University, she went into industry working with suppliers and retailers such as Paul Smith, Ted Baker, Fat Face, Boden, George, New Look, Ben Sherman and Mothercare.

Catherine currently works as an associate lecturer specialising in digital design skills.
