TEXTILES ADVANCED WORKSHOP : AN ONLINE COURSE AT MORLEY COLLEGE

Create textiles with a stimulating, online group studio course.

Either develop your own theme or work to an open group brief from the Beale and Inman tailoring archive, with a view to exhibiting at Westminster Art Reference Library in summer 2020.

The library is behind the National Gallery.

Special attention will be given to personal development and current textile practice with peer group discussion and artist references.

Suitable for those with advanced textiles experience including Textile Foundation or a degree, who wish to further their practice in this and related areas.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Develop ideas and critical thinking through historical, contemporary and practical research

  • Work on either an individual or group project to enhance personal practice

  • Explore a range of textile processes suitable for home studio or table top development

  • Work with a variety of 3D constructed, manipulated, machine or hand stitch techniques or your available home dye and print facilities

  • Optional, negotiated focus sessions on specific techniques will be offered each week

Class format and activities

The course will be online via a digital learning platform. This enables live camera connection via your computer, phone or tablet. Diagram sheets will be available to download along with other visual resources through Moodle.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

You should have completed the Textile Foundation course at Morley College, or a B A in Textiles, or City & Guilds Certificate, or a Diploma in a Textile subject or similar.

• With inbuilt or Web cam
• Smart phone
• Tablet be it Android or IOS(Apple)

To access Zoom and join a meeting:

Before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app from https://zoom.us/download

Otherwise you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a 'join a meeting' link.
When the tutor schedules a meeting, you will be given advance notice by email which will include a unique 9, 10 or 11 digit number called a meeting ID
that is required to join the meeting.

A basic home work area or space and materials to pursue your chosen media.
