Meerbusch, March 23, 2021 – Seiko Epson Corporation plans to supply all Epson Group sites worldwide with electricity from 100 percent renewable energy sources by 2023.
By the end of March 2021, the conversion of all Epson sites in Japan is planned.
Epson Germany has been using only green electricity since 2008.
Significant milestones in the company's sustainability strategy were formulated in 2008 in the long-term Epson Environmental Vision 2050.
In the medium-term corporate vision "Epson 25", Epson created an exposé to achieve the internationally recognized Science Based Targets (SBT) by 2025.
In this scenario, the use of renewable electricity plays a central role.
With the announcement of the exclusive use of green electricity at all of its own company locations worldwide, gradually by 2023, Epson is once again naming further measures to achieve these goals.
Yasunori Ogawa, President of Epson, says: "It is essential that we address global climate change. Our company has been proactively involved in environmental issues from day one, when our founders expressed a desire to protect Lake Suwa next to our headquarters. In addition, we have always believed in helping to solve global environmental problems, for example when we became the first company in the world to commit ourselves to eliminating CFCs from our operations worldwide. In the future, we will continue to push ahead with measures to use 100 percent electricity from renewable sources. In these and other sustainability activities, we set ambitious goals and use all our strength to achieve them."
Epson currently has production sites in the UK, the US (Portland) and the Philippines, three Japanese sites including headquarters and research and development center, and all European sales offices with 100 percent electricity from renewable energy sources.
By the end of March 2021, all Epson sites in Japan and all Epson sites worldwide will be fully supplied with green electricity by 2023.
Epson Deutschland GmbH has been relying on the use of electricity from exclusively renewable energy sources since 2008.
In 2009, the sales centre for Germany, Austria and Switzerland installed a photovoltaic system at the Meerbusch site.
From 2010 to 2020, more than 2,200 tons of CO2 were avoided at this location alone through the exclusive supply of electricity from renewable sources and the use of the photovoltaic system.
"Epson has been at the forefront of climate protection measures for years," says Henning Ohlsson, Managing Director of Epson Deutschland GmbH and European Director for Sustainability. "At Epson Germany, we have been relying on electricity from renewable sources for more than twelve years now and are generating more than 635,000 kWh of electricity during this period alone with our photovoltaic system. This shows that even supposedly small measures can make a big difference step by step. We have to get on with it to make a difference."
Committed to the Japanese philosophy "Monozukuri" (the art and science of manufacturing), Epson's products and services are based on efficient, compact and precise technologies that reduce the environmental impact of Epson's products and services at all stages of the supply chain.
Through sophisticated innovations, Epson plans to create added value for customers that benefits both the environment and the economy.
