We caught up with her at Graduate Fashion Week:
What inspired your creative career? Ever since a young age I have always dreamed of being a fashion designer, I used to sketch my design collections from the age of 6! I think it was only when I started studying textiles at A level that I realised it was something to pursue as a career rather than an interest.
What are your favourite fabrics? At the moment I love patent and high-shine fabrics so am drawn to anything coated. In my most recent collection I used a coated wool in dark red and black that resembled patent leather. I love mixing super glossy fabrics along with my matte prints and textile techniques as I feel it adds another dimension to the garments. I also loved using a moiré, as the subtle distorted print on the black silk fabric added extra interest.
Sum up your style in 3 words? I would say my design style is textural, intricate and innovative.
What would be your dream job? Obviously I feel every design students dream is to start their own brand, and this is something I am greatly interested in. However I am aware of the huge commitment and feel this is something I wouldn’t be able to start straight away. I would like to get as much experience as possible working on the design team for brands I look up to and am hugely inspired by. Brands such as Maison Margiela and Balenciaga are companies that would be such a dream to work for.
We can grant you one wish… What would it be? To have a job I absolutely love, which is exciting and involves travel!
We wish you well Sofi...Dreams do come True!..
