Duties & Responsibilities

The John Lewis Design Studio continues to strive to produce products that showcase not only the high levels of innovation and creativity, that being a John Lewis Designer requires, but also the focus on customer that the John Lewis Partnership prides itself on.

We are currently looking to add an Assistant Designer Print into the Babywear 0-4 design team, working alongside the product designers.

This is predominantly a Babywear role covering boys, girls and unisex. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating original artwork which will be used for all over prints, embroideries and placement graphics.

You will work under the guidance of the Senior Designer.

We are looking for someone who is able to innovate, to create with a passion, a person who has the talent to bring their artwork to life through pattern and print.

This will be evident in their love of colour and the ability to deliver great product knowledge. Design experience with extensive work in print design is a must and should be supported a high degree of CAD skills alongside experience in product, trend prediction and presenting.

Job Requirements

·        To create compelling in-house all over prints, placement graphics and embroideries for Babywear, covering boys, girls and unisex. •

·        To have the ability to create a clear distinction and handwriting for all John Lewis own brand Childrenswear •

·        To Keep up to date with Print trends and innovations •

·        To present Print developments and trends to the Design and Buying team •

·        To have a high level of attention to detail •

·        To produce factory ready artworks. •

·        To work in a consultative manner with a varied range of stakeholders including overseas suppliers.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications –

·        To have previous experience working as a Childrenswear Print Designer. •

·        To possess fantastic drawing and painting skills as well as the ability to utilise such when creating a clear handwriting for all John Lewis own brand Babywear. •

·        To be able to re-colour and re-scale prints with attention to detail. •

·        To have a creative eye for product, with ability to drive the business forward. •

·         To demonstrate excellent CAD system knowledge and usage, on top of being Be fully competent on all Adobe CC packages and full use of Photoshop. •

·        TO have experience of working with suppliers overseas and understand various print techniques. •

·        To have a keen understanding of garment components/construction. • A

·        bility to plan and prioritise workloads and be adaptable to sudden change. • Excellent stakeholder management ability. •

·         Commercial awareness. •

·        Computer literacy

Required desired experience skills and qualifications

·        Experience of working with suppliers overseas would be an advantage.

·        Keen understanding of garment components.

·        Extensive CAD system usage and knowledge.

·        Act as a consultant Demonstrate and use Commercial awareness
