Our fantastic Home department at Next Head Office is looking for an experienced Assistant Designer to work on our Hard goods and Gifting Product Area.

The role involves high levels of newness & options so need to be prolific, good hit rate on getting design right first time.

You must have excellent CAD skills, Photoshop and Illustrator, Microsoft Office and will ideally come from a Retailer or supplier background.

Communication

  • Proactively communicate trends and ideas identified back to colleagues, teams and action key findings.

  • Deputise for the Designer at weekly trade meetings when necessary

  • Working with buying and merchandising to develop the ranges that reflect our customer’s needs and price hierarchy.

  • Work with colleagues in textiles/all categories, to create a cohesive statement across the business.

Execution

  • Continued knowledge of other categories and action any relevant changes as required.

  • Ensure taste level is appropriate to Next's aspirations and customer types.

  • Implement the principles of Better by Design into all categories.

  • Identifying trends in product look and feel for Kitchen, floral and Garden Accessories.

  • Identifying new opportunities in formats, components. Range building. Designing product and briefing to manufacturers.

  • Developing product with the suppliers. Understand how to engineer product to cost.

Skills

  • Extreme proficiency in the Adobe Creative suite supported with strong drawing skills.

  • Must be able to provide examples of mood boards and product design that they feel is reflective of their style.

  • Work that they feel represents them well, they are proud of.

  • Examples of work that show breadth of handwriting.

  • Examples of producing style guides/briefing documents

  • Must have excellent presentation skills and ability to inspire through verbal and visual means.

  • Degree in Graphic design/textile/product design or equivalent.
