AMSTERDAM – Last year, five young designers competed in the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, the Redress Design Award, to sustainably change the fashion industry.
From December 16th, their unique and innovative work can be seen in the Fashion for Good museum at the temporary exhibition: REDRESS 2020.
During a Fashion for Good webinar (December 16th), the exhibition is officially opened by none other than British journalist and fashion professional, Susie Lau (Style Bubble).
Previously a jury member of the Redress Design Award, Susie will speak with the founder of the design competition Christina Dean and one of the finalists, Gönül Yigit, during the webinar.
How can fashion be improved and what is the role of a fashion designer?
The Fashion for Good webinar, answers these questions, showing that fashion designers can take the lead and actually have a positive impact by thinking (and acting) differently.
During the event, the new Redress Design Award exhibition will open at the Fashion for Good museum and we speak with Redress founder Christina Dean about the mission of the competition and the opportunities for designers to provide replicable solutions for fashion waste worldwide.
The Dutch Redress Design Award 2020 finalist, Gönül Yigit, talks about the development of her own collection.
In addition, Dutch demi couture designer and sustainable trail blazer Ronald van der Kemp also makes an appearance as a guest speaker
Susie will interview him about the positive impact that fashion designers can have and advice he can offer from his own design process.
A leader when it comes to sustainable demi-couture, Ronald will speak about his successes, challenges and how creativity guides him through them. Katy Perry, Céline Dion and Michelle Obama, among others, have all worn his creations.
Tenth Anniversary Of Redress
The Redress Design Award is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
In honour of this, the exhibition at the Fashion for Good Museum in Amsterdam will not only display the creations of the 2020 finalists, but also a selection of the most exceptional works from previous years.
All looks are created with zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction techniques and crafted by emerging designers from around the world.
